The registration for the next WoCaNet symposium on 25th and 26th February 2016 just opened. Again, it has a great list of female speakers with divers career paths and, the first time, two workshops prior to the symposium. You can register until the 17th January 2016 here.
I’m looking forward to moderate again the lean in discussion and facilitate your exchange of experiences. Hope to see you there!
Here the call of the organizers:
Dear GGNB doctoral students,
It is our pleasure to invite you to the 4th Women’s Careers and Networks Symposium (WoCaNet) which will take place on 25-26 of February 2016 at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Göttingen. Organized by the PhD and postdoc community of GGNB, Göttingen University, four Max Planck Institutes (MPI-bpc, MPI-ds, MPI-em, MPS), and the European Neuroscience Institute, the symposium aims to introduce young scientists to diverse career and networking opportunities. Inspiring lectures, a plenary discussion, workshops, and a career fair will allow the participants to explore career options and build up a network with professionals from academia and industry.
While the conference primarily addresses female scientists, all scientists are welcome to join and benefit from extensive information about careers and networking.
For further information and to register, go to http://www.wocanet.uni-goettingen.de. The registration deadline is 17 January 2016.
Dare to succeed!
WoCaNet 2016 brings together female PhD students and postdocs with highly successful women of varied professional backgrounds to exchange experiences and to discuss possible career trajectories. The keynote speakers of WoCaNet 2016 are Prof. Dr. Joan A. Steitz, Sterling Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University and Dr. Elizabeth Pollitzer, Director of Portia Ltd., United Kingdom. All talks will be followed by interactive discussions with the participants.
The participants of the symposium will have many opportunities to exchange their ideas and opinions, for example during a plenary discussion inspired by the book Lean In – Women, Work, and the Will to Lead by Sheryl Sandberg, the COO of Facebook.
Excellent networking opportunities
The first day of the symposium consists of two interactive workshops conducted by professional trainers and dedicated to specific career planning strategies for academia and industry. The workshops are titled “Confident career planning for PhD students and postdocs” and “How to develop business related competences during the PhD/Postdoc”.
The second day of the symposium includes a Career Fair which will present various career opportunities for PhD graduates and provide information on available support for women in science.
To enhance interaction between participants and speakers, WoCaNet 2016 includes an exclusive Networking Dinner for a limited number of participants, which provides an exceptional opportunity to meet the speakers. Participants interested in attending the dinner are asked to register and send a personal profile and a picture to wocanet@gwdg.de.
The complete program can be found at https://www.uni-goettingen.de/de/program/525477.html.
We are looking forward to meeting you at WoCaNet 2016!
With best regards,
The Women’s Careers and Networks 2016 Organizing Team
