{"id":309,"date":"2013-06-25T08:30:41","date_gmt":"2013-06-25T06:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ggnb-blog.uni-goettingen.de\/?p=309"},"modified":"2013-06-20T10:02:45","modified_gmt":"2013-06-20T08:02:45","slug":"retrospective-view-on-the-first-career-impulse-session","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ggnb-blog.uni-goettingen.de\/?p=309","title":{"rendered":"Retrospective View on the first Career Impulse Session"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first Career Impulse Session with the invitee <a title=\"First Career Impulse Session with Dr. Christina Sch\u00fctte, Co-Founder and Senior Consultant of ProSciencia Beratungs-GmbH, 6 June 2013, 14:00\" href=\"https:\/\/ggnb-blog.uni-goettingen.de\/?p=193\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Dr. Christina Sch\u00fctte<\/strong><\/span><\/a> was a great success, considering how the attending postdocs assailed her with questions. \u00a0The session was a welcomed opportunity to get to know about alternative careers besides academia. Christina answered all questions in a very open and authentic way, sharing her personal history and giving valuable insights into the work of a grants editor and freelance trainer of professional skills courses \u2013 this was greatly appreciated by all of us!<\/p>\n<p>Some of the more general things I learned: From my perspective, her career shows how important it is to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>know one\u2019s own strengths and to be open for ways to make use of them,<\/li>\n<li>be goal-driven but consider diverse options to achieve these goals, and<\/li>\n<li>take into consideration personal values and private issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regarding the format of Career Impulse Sessions, I learned that<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>one and half hour are a suitable duration for such discussions,<\/li>\n<li>an additional half-hour for open networking and further discussions is necessary and will be added again in the future, and<\/li>\n<li>there are lots of topics for the next sessions \u2013 thanks for your suggestions!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Three postdocs and myself are already preparing the next <a title=\"Career Impulse Session on Networking, date to be announced\" href=\"https:\/\/ggnb-blog.uni-goettingen.de\/?p=314\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Career Impulse Session about networking<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.
