In his PhD Thesis in the lab of Prof. Dr. Holger Stark at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, he developed algorithms and software for improved cryo-EM image processing and protein purification. He received his doctoral degree in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before\njoining GGNB, Lukas studied Molecular Life Science (BSc and MSc) at the\nUniversity of L\u00fcbeck, where he worked on single-molecule fluorescence\nspectroscopy applications. During a research internship at Harvard Medical\nSchool, Lukas started working with cryo-EM and subsequently decided to pursue a\nPhD in method development for structural biology. After defending his thesis,\nLukas joined ZEISS Industrial Quality Solutions as a Scientist \/ Development\nEngineer, where he has since been working on Deep Learning based software\nsolutions for in-line defect detection in industrial parts for OEM customers\nsuch as BMW. His work consists of a mixture of project and innovation\nmanagement, hands-on data science, software development and machine learning\nengineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lukas\nwill share his unfiltered experiences about the transition from academia to\nindustry, the respective challenges, career prospects and an honest evaluation\nof the state of AI in real-world applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n<p><!--EndFragment--><strong data-rich-text-format-boundary=\"true\">About the sessions: <\/strong>Our Career Impulse Sessions offer a platform for interactive and informal exchange about career-related topics for PhD students and postdocs in the Life and Natural Sciences.
