Information about the speaker:

Jamilur Rahman is a GGNB alumnus who did his PhD at the Department of Neurophysiology at the University Medical Center Göttingen.

He has started his professional career at Grünenthal GmbH as a Regulatory Affairs Manager in December 2014 after finishing his PhD. In this role, he has been responsible for planning and execution of post-approval regulatory activities of assigned medicinal products approved in more than 150 countries by interacting directly and indirectly with respective Health Authorities. Based on his performance and good understanding about Pharmaceutical development, he was given a role of Project Manager for Innovation Projects in Feb 2016. In this role, he manages and leads different cross-functional Project Teams comprising Regulatory Affairs, Clinical, Pre-clinical, Chemistry Manufacturing & Control, Medical affairs, Commercial, and Market access for assigned projects (Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices).

Information about the speaker:

Franziska Schmidt studied biochemistry and worked as a PhD student and Postdoc at the Institute of Molecular Oncology at the University of Göttingen. Since 2015, she is Project Manager for the International PhD Program of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg. Around 550 PhD students are working at the DKFZ which is Germany’s largest biomedical research institute and a member of the Helmholtz Association. Franziska is responsible for the international visibility of the PhD program and for the organisation of the bi-annual interviews. She does various marketing activities and represents the DKFZ at international career fairs. During the Career Impulse Session, she will give an overview about jobs and employers in science management as well as talk about her responsibilities at the DKFZ.

Career Impulse Session with Lars Reichl, software developer at Prof. Schumann GmbH, 3 February 2017

We are happy to invite you to another Career Impulse Session titled “Working in IT-consulting – a Göttingen love story” with Dr. Lars Reichl, software developer at Prof. Schumann GmbH in Göttingen.

The event is organized by PhDs and PostDocs of the MPI-ds/IMPRS-PCBS.

Information about the speaker:

Dr. Lars Reichl studied physics at the universities of Heidelberg and Göttingen and worked as PhD researcher and PostDoc at the MPI for Dynamics and Self-Organization in Göttingen. His work at the MPI-DS he was focused on theoretical neuroscience and allowed him to gain some computational skills. This came in handy when he switched gears and started working as a software developer for his current firm.

The Prof. Schumann GmbH started out as a start up driven by university students and a professor and has since gained a standing in the IT-consulting landscape. The firm focuses on the development of software for credit risk management and consulting for large insurances, banks and other corporations. With about 70 employees, Prof. Schumann GmbH is still small but growing fast and always looking to hire. The firm is situated directly opposite of the central campus and might offer a great opportunity for people that are tied to Göttingen and want to start working in the business.

trojanized – Finde den Job der zu dir passt, 9 February 2017

In a 60 minutes talk organized by the Career Service of Göttingen University, Dr. Sebastian Pioch, career consultant and book author, will present his concept trojanized which provides answers to urgent question concerning job search and professional orientation:

  • Which profession suits me?
  • How can I find out which company is right for me?
  • Which tasks am I good at and where are my personal strengths?

The talk will be held in German.

6 Postdoc Positions supported by Dorothea Schlözer Postdoc-Programme at Göttingen University

The presidential board of the Göttingen University Public Law Foundation offers support for young academics in the form of

6 positions (TV-L 13, 100%, term of 2 years),

for female Postdocs, two of which at the University Medical Center (UMG). The positions are scheduled to start on 1 October 2017.

Who can apply?: Eligible to apply are female postdocs of all disciplines, including Medicine, in an early postdoc phase, who conduct a research project at the Georg-August-University (including the University Medical School) or plan to do so.

Application deadline: 31 March 2017

Workshop “My Project Management Skills”, 14 February 2017

Organization, coordination and effective leadership have become a must for pushing your career, in Academia as well as in other sectors. Not only scientists’ day-to-day work, but also securing external funding requires accurate timing, financial structuring and planning of scientific work. When scientists have little awareness of these skills, it can interfere with their attitude and confidence in achieving their goals. This workshop will raise your self-awareness, show you how to improve your project-management related skills and increase your potential for a successful career.

Target group: Young researchers planning to apply for positions requiring project management experience
