We are happy to invite you to our next Career Impulse Session titled “How to pursue a competitive academic career in a new scientific environment” with Dr. Camilo Aponte from (Bogotá, Colombia / Heidelberg, Germany).

Camilo Aponte-Santamaría grew up and studied physics in Bogotá, Colombia. He obtained his PhD in 2011, working in the group of Prof. Bert de Groot, while enrolled in the IMPRS “Physics of Biological and Complex Systems”. After several years working as a postdoctoral researcher, in 2017, he was appointed  the head of the Max Planck tandem research group in computational biophysics at the University of Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. His research aims at understanding how biomolecules carry out their function using concepts of physics and chemistry, along with computational tools. His chosen career path has permitted him to conduct cutting-edge basic research while contributing to education in his country of origin embedded in a stimulating international cooperation framework.

About the sessions: Our Career Impulse Sessions offer a platform for interactive and informal exchange about career-related topics for PhD students and Postdocs in the Life and Natural Sciences. By inviting PhD holders with different career paths, we would like to illustrate the broad range of potential careers for PhD students and postdocs and give inspiration for career choices. The sessions also offer a platform to exchange experiences among each other.
