Mandy will provide insights into her field of work, sharing her personal experiences and perspectives. Over the course of this session, she will share her adventure into the unknown and how opportunities can arise in the most surprising ways, opening worlds never seen before. Following her talk, you will have the opportunity to engage in an interactive and informal discussion.

  • Date: Friday, 2 February 2024
  • Time: 14:00-15:30 (appr.)
  • Location: GZMB building, large seminar room 0.232, ground floor, Justus-von-Liebig-Weg 11 (map)

About the speaker:

Mandy Mai is a biomedical scientist by training and completed her PhD on the biogenesis of the mitochondrial ribosomal small subunit in 2021. Upon finishing the PhD, she ventured more into economy and finished a project management course where she already had the possibility to venture into science related companies.

During this time, she got the opportunity to start as an auditor trainee at CSL Plasma GmbH, a field unbeknownst to her. In her role, she is getting trained on the processes related to qualification of external plasma suppliers as well as the CSL Plasmapheresis centers located in Germany and Hungary. These activities involve strong customer contact, as well as intensive traveling and the chance to grow with new challenges, learning from other cultures and people included, and making use of all available language skills.

About the sessions:

Our Career Impulse Sessions offer a platform for interactive and informal exchange about career-related topics for PhD students and postdocs in the Life and Natural Sciences. By inviting PhD holders with different career paths, we would like to illustrate the broad range of potential careers for PhD students and postdocs and give inspiration for career choices.
