A Chance to Network: The Analytica, 10-13 May 2016, Munich

On Careersteps yesterday, we discussed about how to get in contact with people working in Industry. One among other options is to visit trade fairs. In two weeks, for example, the 25th International trade for Laboratory Technology, Analysis, Biotechnology, and the analytica conference will take place in Munich.

Convincing arguments for taking part in the Analytica outlined by the organizers are:

  • Complete market overview for the laboratory community
Five exhibition halls full of know-how: analytica presents innovative products, systems, components and applications that cover the entire value chain for laboratories in industry and research. This is the place to find the right solution to meet your needs.
  • All important market leaders directly at the fair
All of the industry’s global players meet at analytica. This is the only place where you can find such a high concentration of market leaders, scientists and experts. Profit from this efficient network and make contacts at the global level.
  • International trade fair
With over 1200 exhibitors, 35,384 visitors and 55,000 square meters of exhibition space, analytica is the largest trade fair for analysis, laboratory technology and biotechnology in the world. 36 percent of our exhibitors and 33 percent of our visitors come from abroad.
  • Live Labs for maximum practical relevance
This popular attraction is certain to create a special atmosphere again in 2016. Experience well-known experts that give live presentations of the latest products and solutions in a real laboratory environment.
  • Summit meeting for science and research
The renowned analytica conference gives the scientific elite a chance to present the latest analysis results in all application sectors. Discuss the latest developments and fascinating future prospects with international researchers.
  • Consistent leading position
analytica has been held every two years since 1968. It does an impressive job of maintaining its leading position as an international trade fair, even among global competitors—and expands that position continuously.

Cancelled – Workshop “Assessment Center Training”, 23 May 2016

— Cancelled owing to a lack of demand —

We are happy to announce again the workshop “Assessment Center Training” with Barbara Hoffbauer.

Target group: Junior researchers (PhD students and early stage Postdocs) who are currently applying to positions in Industry

Goal: Get to know the procedure of an assessment center and train for it

Date: Monday, 23 May 2016 , 10:00-18:00 o’clock
Duration: 1 day
Place: GZMB building, Justus-von-Liebig-Weg 11, seminar room 0.232
Trainer: Barbara Hoffbauer

The workshop informs about the content and the procedure of typical Assessment Centers. The participants are involved in practical exercises in a candidate’s role as well as in an observer’s role. They perform single exercises like self-presentation or a conflict conversation and group sessions like open discussions or case studies. They learn what is important and what can be prepared or trained. Additionally they will realize what observers will find out about them and what kind of conclusions they might draw.

Registration: Please register here and email to Dr. Katrin Wodzicki (ggnb-career@gwdg.de), including a short statement on your motivation to join the workshop (Why this workshop?).

Workshop “Exploring the Unknown – The Company World”, 11 May and 3 June 2016

We are happy to announce again the workshop “Exploring the Unknown – The Company World” with Barbara Hoffbauer.

Target group: Junior researchers who are currently applying or plan to apply soon to positions in Industry

Goal: Getting to know the departments and their functions in a company and reflect about whether related jobs fit to you

Dates: Wednesday, 11 May 2016, 9:00-17:00 o’clock, and Friday, 3 June 2016, 12:00-16:00 o’clock
Duration: 1 + 0.5 days
Place: GZMB building, seminar room -1.105
Trainer: Barbara Hoffbauer

Content:

PhD students and postdocs with a background in natural science, humanities, and social science are usually not educated in economic thinking. Sometimes they do not know how enterprises create values. Often they have no ideas about what different departments contribute to the company’s economic success. This lack of knowledge makes them feeling insecure about their opportunities in fields beside research and development. That is the reason why their applications are often not convincing. In this course, participants will learn about different roles and tasks in enterprises and how employees in different departments interact and depend on each other. Playing different roles enables participants to realize for themselves what makes fun most and what fits best to them.

Registration: Please register here and email to Dr. Katrin Wodzicki, including a short statement on your motivation to join the workshop (Why this workshop?).
