  • understand the different roles that individuals might play within a team
  • enhance their communication skills
  • address those issues that might influence the quality of supervision.

On the second day, participants will join the workshop one at the time for a tailor-made session with the trainer. Within this context, participants will have the opportunity to discuss the individual challenges that they are facing and to employ the skills learnt on the first day. By investing one day working with their colleagues on the first day and engaging in a one-to-one session with the trainer on the second day, participants will gain new and invaluable tools to address the challenges that late-stage PhD students and early-stage post-doctoral researchers inevitably face.

Online workshop “Exploring the Unknown – The Company World”, 15-16 November 2021

We are happy to announce our next GAUSS Career Service workshop “Exploring the Unknown – The Company World” by Dr. Gaby Schilling.

This workshop is designed for postdoctoral scientist and late-stage PhD students who are currently applying or planning to apply for a position in industry. Getting to know different departments and their functions in a company and reflect about whether related jobs could be a good fit for your interests and profile are the goals of this workshop.

Dates: Monday and Tuesday, 15-16 November 2021
Duration: Monday, 15 November 2021, 9:00-17:00h and Tuesday, 16 November 2021, 9:00-15:30h
Location: The workshop will take place online.
Trainer: Dr. Gaby Schilling

Registration: Please register here (in case you are not yet registered) and send an email to career@gauss.uni-goettingen.de including a short statement on your motivation to attend the workshop.

Workshop Description:
PhD students and postdocs with a background in natural and social sciences are usually not educated in economic thinking. Sometimes they do not know how enterprises create values. Often they have no idea what different departments contribute to the company’s economic success. This lack of knowledge makes them feel insecure about their opportunities in fields aside from research and development. That is the reason why their applications are often not convincing. In this course, participants will learn about different roles and tasks in enterprises and how employees in different departments interact and depend on each other. Playing different roles enables participants to realize for themselves what is the most fun and what fits best to them.
