Career Impulse Session (24 Jan 2019) with Kathrin Aßhauer (KWS): “Strike a new path – from sequencing data to market data”

We are happy to invite you to our first Career Impulse Session in 2019 titled “Strike a new path – from sequencing data to market data” with Dr. Kathrin Aßhauer from the KWS Group.

Kathrin Aßhauer will show during her talk how she benefited from every educational step in her career and will give an insight into the diverse and interesting tasks of her current position as Manager Strategic Planning Quality Gate & Transition.

KWS is one of the world‘s leading growers and seed producers. Around 5,000 employees in more than 70 countries – with core markets in Germany, Europe, North and South America, and China.

We are happy to announce our next GAUSS Career Service workshop “Job Hunting and Application Skills – Natural and Life Sciences” by Gaby Schilling.

Target group: Postdoctoral scientist and late-stage PhD students who are currently applying or planning to apply for a position in industry or other areas outside academia.

Goal: Becoming familiar with all steps involved in the application process.

Workshop “A Career in Academia” 19-20 March 2019

We are happy to announce one of our new GAUSS Career Service workshops in 2019: “A Career in Academia” by Dr. Neela Enke.

Am I suited for a career in academia? And what does it take to become a professor? Are there alternatives? These questions are crucial for scientists throughout their postdoc phase. This workshop gives an overview on how a career in academia can be achieved and which parameters are relevant for strategic career development in the (German) academic system.

We are happy to invite you to our next Career Impulse Session titled “Utilize scientific experience in an extra-academic career” with Dr. Ulrike Keitel from IDT Biologika GmbH.

Ulrike will share her experiences with finding a position in industry and will talk about the opportunities she took to gain additional skills during and after the PhD theses. Further, she will give an overview about her responsibilities as Project Manager in the pharmaceutical environment, especially in the area of contract manufacturing, and her work as a group leader.

We are happy to invite you to our next Career Impulse Session titled “A peak behind the curtain – how publishers manage scientific journals” with Dr. Christian Schulz from Elsevier Publishing in Amsterdam.

Most academics are well aware of what the role of an editor involves, but what about the publisher behind the journal? What does a publisher do and what does it take to succeed?

Christian will give answers to these questions, based on his experience working as a Senior Publisher at Elsevier. Time will be given for further questions.
