Workshop “Scientific Grant Writing”, 25-26 February 2019

This workshop helps postdoctoral scientists and late-stage PhD students considering to apply for research funding to improve their grant writing skills, learn how to structure and write a successful grant application and how to choose the right funding call.

Workshop “Exploring the Unknown – The Company World”, 5-6 February 2019

We are happy to announce our next GAUSS Career Service workshop “Exploring the Unknown – The Company World” by Dr. Gaby Schilling.

This workshop is for postdoctoral scientist and late-stage PhD students who are currently applying or planning to apply for a position in industry. Getting to know different departments and their functions in a company and reflect about whether related jobs could be a good fit for your interests and profile are the goals of this workshop.

Career Impulse Session (7 December 2018) with Ulrike Keitel/IDT Biologika GmbH: “Utilize scientific experience in an extra-academic career”

We are happy to invite you to our next Career Impulse Session titled “Utilize scientific experience in an extra-academic career” with Dr. Ulrike Keitel from IDT Biologika GmbH.

Ulrike will share her experiences with finding a position in industry and will talk about the opportunities she took to gain additional skills during and after the PhD theses. Further, she will give an overview about her responsibilities as Project Manager in the pharmaceutical environment, especially in the area of contract manufacturing, and her work as a group leader.

Most academics are well aware of what the role of an editor involves, but what about the publisher behind the journal? What does a publisher do and what does it take to succeed?

Christian will give answers to these questions, based on his experience working as a Senior Publisher at Elsevier. Time will be given for further questions.

Workshop “Networking in Science”, 10-11 December 2018

Networking is the most effective career building method! It works by developing relationships and talking with people who can support you to explore career options and goals.  Studies show that 70% to 90% of satisfying positions inside and outside of academia are found through proper self-promotion and networking.

In order to be able to operate successfully, good contacts are often helpful both to the people you are helping, as well as to relevant PIs, collaborators and colleagues. This network of grown relationships offers professional support, advice and information in your daily work.

The right internal and external network contacts and collaborations can facilitate work processes, additionally, by encouraging and motivating you. In short: a functioning and vital network can increase joy and satisfaction at your job.
