We are happy to announce our next GAUSS Career Service workshop “Succeeding in Academic Interviews” by Franziska Jantzen.
This workshop is intended for Postdocs and late-stage PhD students preparing for the next big step in their academic career.

Workshop description
The workshop provides structured preparation for applying for junior and tenure-track professorships. Participants receive in-depth and comprehensive information on the individual elements of the hiring process, as well as the qualifications required for a successful application for a professorship. Unwritten rules and potential micro-political processes are also addressed. To help participants practice for the application process, the interview with the appointment committee is simulated in small groups so that they can learn to answer difficult questions confidently and elegantly.
Goals:
- understanding the individual steps and requirements of an appointment process (for junior and tenured-track professorships) at universities in Germany and will be able to assess when the right time is for them to apply.
- knowledge of potential micropolitical processes
- learn techniques and receive information on how to approach the job application process well-prepared, both professionally and mentally
- gain insight into how to prepare application materials that meet the requirements during the hiring process
- get familiar with the negotiation process after a job offer and apply negotiation strategies to advocate for your goals with confidence and success
