GOEvol V – “Networks in Biology” Symposium, 12 – 13 October 2016

Date: 12 and 13 October 2016

Location: GZMB building, Justus-von-Liebig-Weg 11, Göttingen

Aim of the Symposium:

Networks are a common theme in all biological processes. Animal brains are composed of structured neural circuits and the development of organs is regulated by tightly controlled gene regulatory networks. The fast propagation of disease vectors such as the Zika virus in South America within a human population is facilitated by a complex network of human interactions and nearly all living organisms are connected via food networks.

The organization and structure and thus the function of biological networks can rarely be directly studied. Therefore, different specialized approaches such as mathematical modelling, empirical studies or the combination of those are being developed in various biological disciplines. The main aim of the NETWORKS IN BIOLOGY conference is to bring researchers of different research fields together to reveal commonalities of different biological networks. A comprehensive understanding of the different applied methodologies will inevitably influence future research on network structures, organization and function

Registration is open until 5 August 2016.  The Symposium is limited to 80 participants.

For more information on speakers, program and location of the symposium click here.

Career Impulse Session with Medical Manager Dr. Gunnar Dietz, 2 August 2016

We are happy to invite you to a Career Impulse Session with Dr. Gunnar Dietz  from the Dr. Willmar Schwabe GmbH.

Date: Tuesday, 2 August 2016, 17:00 – 19:00 o’clock
Place: GZMB building, Justus-von-Liebig-Weg 11, seminar room 0.232
Duration: 1.5 hours + 0.5 hour for open networking

What does a Medical Manager in the Pharmaceutical Industry do?

A Medical Manager is the most important contact providing medicinal and scientific expertise for drug marketing in the pharmaceutical industry. Working at the intersection between research and development, medicinal market authorization, marketing and sales, his activities are versatile. To name a few examples, he initiates and drives forward scientific collaborations with external partners, develops close contacts with key opinion leaders, contributes to the development of marketing strategies and their implementation, is in charge of the scientific education of the sales force, and provides scientific information to physicians, pharmacists, and patients, and colleagues within the organization. To become a medical manager, a strong research background in the life sciences or the medical profession is mandatory. In addition, strong interpersonal skills commensurate with the need to effectively communicate with internal and external partners is equally important.

Gunnar Dietz is a biologist who has been involved in research in academia and the pharmaceutical industry for most of his life. Since four years, he has been working as a medical manager at Dr. Willmar Schwabe GmbH, the largest German producer of plant-derived, evidence-based medicine.

For organizational reasons, we would be grateful if you could write an email to ggnb-career@gwdg.de, if you consider taking part. However, registration is not required. You can also show up spontaneously.

For those of you who have kids, we have the possibility to organize child care for the time of the event which includes a “mobile playground” and trained personnel to supervise the kids. Please inform us by 15 July at the latest if you have demand for such a service, how many kids you would like to bring and their age.
