Next Wednesday, an information event on the University’s position paper “Perspektiven für Karrierewege in der Wissenschaft” will take place, targeting employees, postdocs and PhD students of the Georg-August-University Göttingen. It will be in German. However, I’m convinced that questions in English are possible, if you feel more comfortable therewith.

The workshop deals with how to write a professional application. Participants will learn about the requirements according to form and content of CVs and the respective differences between academia and companies. They will reflect about how to convey their strengths and motivation in response to a job advertisement, but also how to make use of speculative applications. Moreover, participants will train their self-presentation in the job hunting process, including self-presentation on career fairs, conferences, and interviews. The workshop will include a couple of training sessions, partly accompanied with video recording for a follow-up analysis.
Subsequent to the workshop, it is possible to get a CV check from the trainer.

We are delighted to invite you to the 3rd biennial CMPB Symposium Encephalon, that will be held on Tuesday, 03. November 2015 at the Max Planck Institute of Experimental Medicine in Göttingen, Germany.
Encephalon 2015 is organized by the graduate students of the Cluster of Excellence in Nanoscale Microscopy and Molecular Physiology of the Brain (CNMPB) and aims to bring together young researchers and leading scientists with research interests within the CMPB consortium.
This event includes a line-up of internationally renowned speakers ih the fields of synaptic transmission and plasticity, neural circuits and neurodegenrative diseases.
Subsequent to the Encephalon Symposium a Brain Clearing Imaging Mini-Symposium is scheduled for Wednesday, 04. November 2015 (venue to be confirmed).

Dr. Peter Schneider ist Diplom-Physiker, arbeitete als Doktorand am Max-Planck-Institut für biophysikalische Chemie in Göttingen und wurde 1997 mit einer Arbeit über bildgebende Messung von Fluoreszenzlebensdauern promoviert. Seit 2001 ist er Patentanwalt und seit 2003 Gesellschafter der Kanzlei Fiedler, Ostermann & Schneider in Göttingen (fos-patent). In der Veranstaltung berichtet er über die Arbeit des Patentanwalts/ der Patentanwältin sowie die dafür notwendigen formalen und persönlichen Voraussetzungen. Im Anschluss an seinen Vortrag steht er den Teilnehmenden für Fragen und Diskussionen zur Verfügung.
Die Veranstaltung findet auf Deutsch statt, da sehr gute Deutschkenntnisse eine Voraussetzung für diesen beruflichen Werdegang sind. Fragen können, bei Bedarf, auch auf Englisch gestellt werden.
Aus organisatorischen Gründe wären wir für eine kurze Rückmeldung dankbar, wenn Sie planen, an der Veranstaltung teilzunehmen. Eine spontane Teilnahme ist jedoch ebenso möglich.
We invite you to take part in the course “Fundamental Principles of Sensory Processing” which will take place Saturday, Sept 26th 2015 , 12:30 – 19:00 at the MPI of Experimental Medicine.
Sensing, one of the most important characteristics of the living organism, relies on a combination of specialized organs to pick up signals from the outside world, and complex neuronal circuits to interpret the signals. Both the organs and the neuronal circuits have evolved to extraordinary complexity, especially in mammals, with the most prominent examples being the auditory and visual systems.
Our course aims to untangle this complexity, offering students an in-depth view of both the organs behind sensory transmission and the inner workings of the respective neural circuits. We focus on both the visual system (two lectures) and the auditory system (two lectures), while also adding lectures on the development of sensory signaling and lateral line function. Lectures will be given by speakers of the Ribbon Synapse Symposium 2015 (24-26 September 2015). We strongly encourage the participation of young scientists at the symposium and invite you to submit an abstract for a poster presentation or a short talk.

Wir freuen uns, den Workshop “Wissenschaftsmanagement – Ist das was für mich?” ankündigen zu können.

Einige Nachwuchswissenschaftler*innen sehen das Wissenschaftsmanagement als eine Chance, der Wissenschaft treu zu bleiben und gleichzeitig mehr Planungssicherheit zu bekommen. Andere Nachwuchswissenschaftler*innen haben den Bereich Wissenschaftsmanagement noch gar nicht ins Blickfeld möglicher Karrierewege genommen. Beide Gruppen wissen jedoch in der Regel wenig über dieses Berufsfeld, dessen Anforderungen und langfristigen Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten. Für alle, die gern mehr darüber erfahren möchten und sich fragen, ob der Wechsel für sie interessant sein könnte, haben der GGNB Career Service und die zentrale Koordination Mentoring diesen 4-stündigen Workshop entwickelt.
–> Für jene, die den Einstieg in dieses Berufsfeld im Anschluss an den Workshop in Angriff nehmen wollen, bietet die Zentrale Koordination Mentoring ein spezielles Mentoring Programm an (WeWiMento – Wege ins Wissenschaftsmanagement). Die nächste Bewerbungsrunde für WeWiMento läuft vom 1. Oktober bis 15. November 2015.
Der Workshop soll
in die Rahmenbedingungen des Wissenschaftsmanagement in Deutschland und die Funktionen und Fähigkeiten eines Wissenschaftsmanagers/ einer Wissenschaftsmanagerin einführen,
einen Raum anbieten, in dem die Teilnehmer*innen über sich selbst und ihre Passung zum Berufsfeld “Wissenschaftsmanagement” reflektieren können und
erste Strategien aufzeigen, sich dem Berufsfeld “Wissenschaftsmanagement” zu nähern.
Nach dem Workshop wissen die Teilnehmer*innen
in welchen Organisationen und Positionen Wissenschaftsmanager*innen in Deutschland tätig sind,
welche allgemeinen Fähigkeiten und Kenntnisse von Wissenschaftsmanager*innen erwartet werden,
welche Fähigkeiten und Kompetenzen sie selbst auszeichnen und
ob eine tiefergehende Beschäftigung mit dem Berufsfeld Wissenschaftsmanagement für sie interessant ist.
