Workshop “My Project Management Skills”, 8 December 2017

Organization, coordination and effective leadership have become a must for pushing your career, in Academia as well as in other sectors. Not only scientists’ day-to-day work, but also securing external funding requires accurate timing, financial structuring and planning of scientific work. When scientists have little awareness of these skills, it can interfere with their attitude and confidence in achieving their goals. This workshop will raise your self-awareness, show you how to improve your project-management related skills and increase your potential for a successful career.

Target group: Young researchers planning to apply for positions requiring project management experience

Goals: Reflect on your own project management expertise and learn how to present your expertise to potential employers

Date: Friday, 8 December 2017, 9:00-18:00h
Location: Schwann Schleiden Research Center, Julia-Lermontowa-Weg 3, small seminar room -1.101 (basement)

Call for Applications: Postdoc Stipends from the Branco Weiss Fellowship

The Branco Weiss Fellowship – Society in Science is a unique postdoc program. It awards young researchers around the world with a generous personal research grant, giving them the freedom to work on whatever topic they choose anywhere in the world, for up to five years.

This research fellowship is designed to support postdoctoral researchers after their PhD and before their first faculty appointment. Those in current postdoctoral positions are also eligible. Ideally, fellows pursue unconventional projects in new areas of science, engineering and social sciences.

Candidates that present an unusual research project that departs from the mainstream with a remarkable track record will be short-listed for the prestigious grant.

A Branco Weiss Fellowship consists of CHF 100,000 per year. It may be used to cover all legitimate costs of research (i.e. salary and/or equipment, travel expenses, consumables, personnel, etc.).

The five-year fellowship is awarded in two installments:

  1. The pioneer phase: the first two years of research
  2. The exploitation phase: the remaining three years

At the end of the pioneer phase, a review is conducted. This evaluates the project, its continued originality, and the productivity of the fellow. Branco Weiss Fellows are encouraged to seek faculty positions during their exploitation phase; success hereby will not terminate the fellowship.

Applications for the 2018 fellowship intake are now invited!

Apply here until 15 January 2018.
