We’re happy to announce our next GAUSS Career Impulse Session, this time with Dr. Franziska Schmidt, Center Manager at the Center for Digital Transformation of the Technical University of Munich at TUM Campus Heilbronn.

Franziska will provide insights into the field of science management and shed light on various job opportunities and employers in this field, sharing her personal experiences and perspectives. Moreover, she will delve into her role as Center Manager at TUM, offering an overview of her responsibilities and contributions. Franziska will also be available for questions and discussions around the topic of reconciling job and family. Following her talk, you will have the opportunity to engage in an interactive and informal discussion as well.

About the speaker:

Franziska Schmidt is a biochemist by training and a GGNB alumna. Having completed her PhD in 2013 at the Institute of Molecular Oncology under the guidance of Prof. Matthias Dobbelstein at the University of Göttingen, Franziska embarked on a new journey at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg. Here, she assumed the role of Project Manager for the International PhD Program, where her responsibilities included enhancing the program’s international visibility and coordinating the bi-annual selection interviews. In 2021, Franziska embraced a fresh challenge outside the biosciences as the Center Manager of the Center for Digital Transformation at the Technical University of Munich’s new campus in Heilbronn. Her role involves supporting the development of the Center and collaborating closely with the Center Director and professors. She also manages tasks such as establishing industry partnerships, organizing scientific workshops and events, and conducting marketing and PR activities for the Center and TUM Campus Heilbronn.

About the sessions: Our Career Impulse Sessions offer a platform for interactive and informal exchange about career-related topics for PhD students and postdocs in the Life and Natural Sciences. By inviting PhD holders with different career paths, we would like to illustrate the broad range of potential careers for PhD students and postdocs and give inspiration for career choices.
