Further Funding Opportunities for a Postdoc Abroad

I just got information about two funding programmes for doing a postdoc abroad.

New DAAD programme for postdocs (P.R.I.M.E.)

In co-financing with the EU programme Marie Curie, the DAAD is offering new funding opportunities for postdoctoral researchers, namely „Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience“ (P.R.I.M.E). It is funding positions (not stipends) for highly qualified junior researchers of all nationalities and from all research fields. Promotion is possible for 12 month aboard and 6 month of integration in a German university, at which the sponsored postdoc is employed the full funding period.

Deadline for application: 31 March 2014

Start of the funding: 1 September 2014

Mildred-Scheel postdoctoral programme

German Cancer Aid is offering postdoctoral stipends for young physicians and natural scientists who plan to realize a project in the field of clinic-related oncological basic research or clinical cancer research at well-known institutions aboard.

The programme has 4 review phases per year. Next Deadline is Monday, 17 March 2014.

Scientific Publishing for a Wider Public: Prize for Junior Researchers

Could you write about your research in a way a wider public can understand what you are researching? In German? The Klaus Tschira Stiftung is searching for junior researchers who are doing excellent research and write comprehensibly about it.

The Klaus Tschira Preis für verständliche Wissenschaft KlarText! Is giving to researchers from biology, chemistry, computer sciences, mathematics, neurosciences, and physics. When you did you PhD in one of these fields in 2013 and want to write an article about your work in a popluar scientific way, apply for the Klaus Tschira Preis für verständliche Wissenschaft 2014. The best articles will be awarded with 5000 Euro and published in a special edition of the magazine bild der wissenschaft. The prize is announced annually, each year for junior researchers who did their PhD the year before.

Information Event on Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers, 30 January 2014

Next week, the German Association of Humboldtians offered an information event on the Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship. This funding supports German researchers (only in the four years after they have completed their doctorate) to go for a postdoc abroad for 6 to 24 months. This funding opportunity is introduced in more detail. In addition, a former stipend holder, Dr. Rainer Härtle, will share his personal experience.

Workshop “Professional Appearance And Authentic Self-Presentation”, 14 March 2014

We are happy to announce the first workshop on “Professional appearance and authentic self-presentation“.

Date: Friday, 14 March 2014, 9:00-17:00 o’clock

Place: Tagungszentrum an der Sternwarte, Geismar Landstr. 11

Duration: 1 day

Content:

Your personal appearance is crucial for your success in presentations and conversations, in your daily professional life or in job hunting processes. Thus, it contributes to your career development in a critical way. Besides the quality of the content, the key factors are the following: Am I able to create a positive atmosphere for me and my audience? Can I deal confidently with stress situations? How do I react to unforeseen situations?

This hands-on seminar will address those and related topics and support you in using your strengths and expand your self-awareness and your communication skills.

Topics:

  • Reflect one’s own strengths and use them effectively
  • Raise awareness of how you see yourself and how you are seen by others
  • Optimizing breathing, voice, language and body language
  • Lively contact in face-to-face communication and towards larger audiences
  • Flexible handling of difficult situations during presentations, interviews and conversations
  • Mastering stress and stage fright

Methods:

  • Breathing, vocal and body exercises
  • Detailed feedback to personal appearance in presentations and behavior in conversations
  • Exercises for the improvement of personal appearance and presence
  • Communication model based on Marshall Rosenberg
  • Role playing
  • Brief theoretical inputs

Introduction of Workshop Trainer Sabine Mariß

Sabine Mariß, Göttingen, studied social pedagogy at the University of Bremen. She is a certified voice trainer (Lichtenberger Institut, Darmstadt), a presentation trainer and a certified communication trainer (“Nonviolant communication”, after Marshall Rosenberg). For more than 10 years she is working as a freelancer in Universities – e.g. Göttingen, Hannover and Kassel – as well as in different enterprises, giving presentation and communication workshops and coaching. By this means she is familiar with the academic as well as the company world. In her work she is inviting her participants to discover and use their own strengths and evolve more and more to an authentic and confident person.

Peer Coaching Groups – A Method to Achieve Your Career Goals

You might have made some New Year’s resolutions, some of them might have to do with your career goals such as finding a new position or establishing a cooperation or writing a grant proposal. As it is hard to find the time and to overcome obstacles alone, peer coaching could be helpful in sticking to your goals and continuously doing something to achieve them.

You wonder what peer coaching is or how it could help you achieving your goals? In the next Career Impulse Session, Barbara Hoffbauer and I want to introduce and discuss the idea of peer coaching groups with you.

Qualification Programme For Female Postdocs At The Göttingen Research Campus

The equal opportunities office offers a qualification programme for female postdocs at the Göttingen Research Campus. Depending on the language skills of the finally selected participants, the workshops will be in English.

The following requirements have to be considered:

The amount of time involved is approximately 6 days in one year for participation The programme will start on 25./26. February 2014 with an obligatory kick-off workshop. [All career development workshops and coachings are obligatory plus four additional workshops or events.]
The costs incurred for materials, drinks and refreshments during the workshops amount to 135 Euros.
